Want to look and feel younger? No time (or money) to visit the spa? No problem. According to Mehmet Oz, MD and Carol Stratford from Arizona’s Miraval Spa, all you need is these do-it-yourself spa treatments, which Dr. Oz calls “mini miracle” potions.
Mini miracle #1: Rose water toner
Rose water acts as a natural anti-inflammatory and it soothes irritated skin and helps reduce sun damage, according to Stratford. (Roses are rich source of antioxidants, Stratford says.) To make this miracle potion, add 1 cup of rose petals to 2 cups of boiling water. Let the mixture cool, then squeeze the water from the petals into a sterilized jar. Add the petals back in, seal the jar, and store it in the refrigerator. The rose water will last for about a week.
Mini miracle #2: Cucumber mint water
Stratford says cucumber mint water is served to every Miraval guest. It has a natural calming effect and it helps replenish the body’s natural moisture balance, she says. The cucumbers enhance skin tone and texture, the mint adds a soothing element and the lemon freshens the flavor. To make it, combine one sliced and peeled English cucumber, three mint springs, half a lemon and 1 ½ to 2 quarts of water. Allow 30 minutes or so for the mixture’s flavors to blend—then drink up!
Mini miracle #3: Lavender oil
Can’t get to the spa for a massage? Lavender oil can help relieve anxiety, fatigue and even insomnia. All you need to do is add three drops into a humidifier and turn it on before bed. Simple, right?
