On Dr. Oz: Natural Treatments to Fight Pain

Looking to ease aches and pains? Talk show host Montel Williams, who suffers from multiple sclerosis (MS), revealed to Dr. Oz his best-kept secrets for using natural pain treatments to stop hurting.

Hops aren’t just for beer
Hops extract
is a plant-based supplement with anti-inflammatory properties. According to Dr. Oz, “When you’re in pain, your brain gets signaled with all of these messages to remind you that you’re in pain. A few drops of hops extract added to a glass of water helps turn off those signals.”

Roll the pain away
Foam rolling
is great before you work out, but it’s also Williams’ second breakthrough to fight pain, and he uses it daily. A foam roller lets you apply self-massage to various muscles. It helps you work out knots, release muscle tension and flush out lactic acid that creates soreness and sometimes makes your muscles hurt.

Compress with copper
If your muscles constantly ache, Williams recommends wearing a compression sleeve infused with copper. According to Dr. Oz, compression garments have been proven to help with pain because they keep your muscles in place. The copper is thought to reduce inflammation. Williams recommends wearing the compression sleeve not only when you work out but also as you sleep so that you can spend your entire night pain-free.

Spice up your life
Got joint pain? Try eating ginger. Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties that are similar to those of ibuprofen. All you need is 1 teaspoon of it a day to fight your joint pain. Williams recommends eating it before and after a meal because it not only reduces pain but also helps settle your stomach so that you don’t get indigestion.

Sometimes positive thinking can help alleviate some of your pain. Instead of saying ” oh, I hurt so bad!”. When you wake up in the am, have a good cat stretch and say” every day, in every way, I am getting better and better”. And mean it!

Please keep me informed about any new findings of pain relief. I have Lupus, fibromyalgia and arthritis and there arent many days that i don’t hurt. I take ibuprophen everyday and i am worried about the damage it could do to my liver etc. My Dad and my daughter are in the same boat so any tips would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank You

I have found that whole celery seed has anti-inflammatory properties and can stop many types of pain. I take 1/2 teaspoon, on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning. The first time I took it, I was pain free within 2 hours. I used to have headaches, shoulder, neck, knee, back, and hip pain every day. I take it every morning, and am pain free all day. I suspect that it works like aspirin and thins the blood. So it might not be good for people who are on blood-thinners now. Also, as an added bonus, I used to have cold feet, hands, and nose all the time. No more!!! Sometimes I even have to put my feet outside the covers even on a cold winter night. I found that whole celery seed is expensive in the grocery stores, so I get mine from the drug store food section … a lot less and often on sale. I have been using it for 10 years. The only time I need pain medication now is for tooth, sinus, or ear pain. It should also be noted that the celery seed does not cure or fix anything. What is wrong is still wrong. So continue to treat the injury with respect.
