A couple of years ago, I started wearing a pedometer. I was curious to see how many steps I was taking each day, then chagrined to find that I fell well short of the 10,000 recommended by the experts. So I started doing little things—marching in place while brushing my teeth, pacing the room while on the phone, using the rest room one floor down at work—to try to get my number up. And it worked!
Making those tiny changes took almost no extra time but yielded huge benefits. I can now power up stairs without getting winded, have more energy throughout the day and have noticed that the scale is more forgiving when I indulge, thanks to the extra calories I’m burning. Plus, I can always find a parking spot right away at the supermarket because I’m not jockeying to be near the front door.
Small investments that yield big payoffs is the whole idea behind Sharecare’s Make a Change Challenge. Improving your health—and your life—doesn’t have to be a huge production. All it takes is doing a few little things differently.
This week Sharecare challenges you to find one way to move more. Try this do-anywhere move from Elite Trainer Joel Harper and enter to win one of 10 sets of the Zumba Exhilarate DVD Experience. The more weeks of the Challenge you enter, the greater your chances of snagging the $6,000 grand prize.
There’s no need to get a pedometer. Simply stand or walk whenever it makes sense, swear off elevators in favor of the stairs or turn up the tunes and dance around during the commercials or while dinner’s cooking.
Move your booty, firm your booty and maybe even win some booty! It’s as simple as that.
What would you do with a $6,000 prize? Let us know in the comment box below.

I sit on an exercise ball while watching TV. I can feel the muscles in my legs burn as I “roll” around on it for 30 minutes or more. Not only am I building leg muscles, but I find that my balance has improved while doing other activities.

Additionally, what would I do with $6,000? I would take my husband on a trip to Hawaii where I would go zip lining, snorkeling and swim with the dolphins. I would also hike on one of the volcanoes. Having lost 165 pounds with the assistance of weight loss surgery, I have gotten my life back. At 61, I’m doing things I have never been able to do and enjoying it! The surgery helped me get the weight off, which seemed like a momumental task to do on my own, even though I tried many times over the years. Keeping it off is all up to me. And I’ve managed to keep it off for 18 months now and will never go back to that place again. I have learned to eat healthy and exercise. For someone who was a “professional dieter”, I really had no idea prior to surgery how to listen to my body and recognize the triggers that always made me fail before. Now, I’m a different person both inside and out and I like myself for the first time in 40 years.

If I won the $6,000 prize I would change the way my children eat. We have recently adopted 4 children and now we have a family of 7. Often it is expensive to teach my 5 children how to eat heathly and provide snacks that are not the quick sugar prepackaged things. So for me the funds would allow me to invest into their lives teaching them how to cook properly with healthy alternatives and as a result gain several recipes that we could use long term. We have been working on this as a family but not as extensive as I would like.

If I won the 6,000 it would change my kids life and I. I would be able to take them on a trip which we have never done before. And also they are wanting to do some type of sport for school but I have not been able to sign them up because it cost too much money and I am just not able to pay. And I would be able to buy us a new TV which really need.

If I won $6,000 dollars I would definitely pay off some bills, and go on a vacation with my Mother whom was hurt very badly a few months after she retired from her job of 24years, last year. She now has limited mobility and is disabled. She was planning on traveling after retirement unfortunately things have changed, and that is not possible. I would love to be able to take a few weeks off both of my jobs to travel with her anywhere she would want to go, just to bring back some joy into her life she so well deserves.

I try to get in as much walking as possible. I park way out in parking lots, I’m able to get in more walking that way and keep my car away from careless people with shopping carts. We always take the stairs. Also, in our quest to walk more we’ve discovered some awesome trails in our area! We’ve enjoyed that so much that we look for trails to walk when we are out of town. A beautiful scenery always makes the walk seem like nothing. If I won the $6,000 I would use it to pay my savings back for the money I had to us on emergencies this year.

If i were to win $6,000 i would take my family on a much needed vacation. I have been with my husband for 8 years and we have 2 kids 5 and 3 and we have never gone anywhere. Some time off our normal daily routine would be fabulous. Plus we have been attending the local ymca for 2 months now and I have lost 10 lbs and he has gained some muscle so it would be so nice to treat ourselves for our accomplishment.

I would use the $6,000 to pay for chiropractic care. I had some previously but can’t afford it now. Experienced tremendous natural relief from pain and felt my healthiest when I underwent treatments. Love you Dr.Oz. Keep doing what you do!

I am 67, joined Weight Watchers in Jan and have since lost 34 lbs. Had lost 10 before I joined WW so a total of 44 lbs. Have learned some yoga and have started exercising 3 times a week at our local Senior Center. Our diet has changed drastically and we planted a veggie garden this year that is doing well. We eat from the garden, eat alot of fish and have added supplements as well. I would use the 6,000$’s by dividing it among our children so they could pay college expenses for our grandchildren and maybe they would eat healthier too.

I recently went back to Weight Watchers and started exercising again. I use my walking DVD’s and Biggest Loser DVD’s twice a week I use treadmill. I am on my way to a healthier and feeling better. I could use the $6,000.00 because for 3.5 years I worked two jobs and now I am working one and I would join a gym to get a personal trainer to work with me to keep me moving. Our first Grandchild has arrived and sharing money with my daughter would be amazing because every little will help her. Not leaving my son out and my aging mother. Dr Oz has been such an inspiration in my health life and I am so glad for this website.

I would give some to our local food shelf, use some to pay some credit card debt, and use the rest to pay down college tuition for my kids

My thirty three year old daughter and I started a healthier lifestyle program today. Today is also my 58th birthday. If I were to win the $6000.00 prize I would take her on a mother/daughter trip to celebrate our success when we reach our goals.
