Stella Ortega had a lot of inspiration when she decided to lose 40 pounds in Dr. Oz’s Transformation Nation: Million Dollar You Challenge. She leaned on her husband, daughters and grandchildren and on six specific goals: lose 40 pounds, improve her heart and overall health, get below a size 10 and buy skinny jeans.
She hasn’t bought the skinny jeans just yet, but she’s checked off everything else on her list. She lost 45 pounds, got in great shape and went from a size 16 to a size 6. The South Lake Tahoe, Calif. resident also went from a body mass index of 31 to a healthy BMI of 23.
“To continue to lose weight week after week, work out every day and eat the healthiest I have ever eaten was tough, but I did it,” Ortega says. “By learning to eat whole grains, fruits, vegetables and lean protein, I fueled my body to exercise to its maximum potential.”
Ortega did cardio, P90X, and Zumba and lifted weights. The healthy eating and exercise and her “never, never, never give up” attitude helped her become one of 10 finalists in Dr. Oz’s Transformation Nation: Million Dollar You Challenge. If she is, she may be wearing those skinny jeans. “I would like to purchase one item from my list. Maybe a pair of designer jeans,” she says. “I need to win this contest first.”
