How to Maintain Your Weight Loss for Life!

Dear Transformation Nation: Congratulations! You did it! If you’ve you reached your goal weight, doesn’t it feel good? Now you might be worried about maintaining your weight loss or fitness level, or wondering how you’ll be able to keep the weight off.

Truthfully, this is where most people fall off the wagon because they think that diets are for a short period of time and they haven’t set new goals. Studies show that if you aren’t moving toward a goal, you will backslide. Having a goal to strive for, even if you don’t need to lose more weight, is the key to staying fit for life.

Your goal may be as simple as becoming more flexible, or maybe you want to improve your strength. These goals also require healthy eating, so they’re a great way to lure yourself into a healthier lifestyle.

But the truth is, whatever you did to lose the weight and get in shape in the first place is also what will keep the weight off. This is why we call it a lifestyle! It actually becomes easier since you have been practicing all of the good behaviors like eating your vegetables and exercising daily. Keep it up and you may even lose more weight!

The ultimate goal of Transformation Nation is to help you sustain a healthy weight and an active lifestyle for the rest of your life.

Here are five things you need to do to live lean for life:

  1. Eat breakfast every day, even if it’s just a protein shake.
  2. Exercise! Continued exercise increases your metabolism and provides strength, flexibility, and mental health.
  3. Eat at least eight vegetables and two pieces of fruit every day, and remember: The more fish you eat the leaner you’ll be.
  4. Keep your support plan in place for life. If you don’t have one, get one!
  5. Weigh yourself at least weekly. If you gain 2 pounds, it’s time to tighten up your plan.

Keep setting new goals annually, and go for the gold! Don’t sell yourself short. If you can conceive it, you can achieve it! I can personally promise you that you will never be sorry if you exercise or eat right. But you will always be sorry if you don’t. So choose health!
