Fit Friday: Derak Glover Has Been There

Need to lose weight? Elite Trainer Derak Glover has been there; he’s lost 78 pounds.

“On June 4, 2008, I was 254 pounds,” Glover says. “Twenty one weeks later on November 4, 2008, I was 176 pounds. With my strategies, I’ve been able to keep the excess weight off into 2012 and look forward too continuing with this success for good,” he says.

On Sharecare, Glover answers questions on topics ranging from how to get a workout for the entire body to how to get six-pack abs. He wants his clients to be as successful as he has been at embracing a healthy lifestyle.

Day Job: “Personal fitness training. Optimal health coaching and presentation.”

Proud to be: “In my 50s and living life at a healthy weight—and equipped with experiences and resources that allow me to help others achieve a healthy outcome for the long-term.”

Favorite activity:  Coaching and walking.

Health mission: “To help America get healthy again.”

What’s always in his fridge: “Broccoli, eggs and/or egg whites.”

The one healthy thing he does every day: “My N.E.A.T. (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis) program. The N.E.A.T. System helps you take control of your body’s energy balance by keeping you active without too much thought.” An example would be standing at your desk at work instead of sitting down.

Passion: “To wake every day and make a difference.”

Secret pastime: “Acting. I’ve always had a passion for theater and film but never pursued it as a career.”

Weight-management secret: “B.E.S.L.I.M. Breakfast, Exercise, Support, 5 to 6 Lean Meals each day, Individually designed plan to help you succeed, and Monitoring to catch a problem before it becomes a problem.”

Tips for getting rid of belly fat: “Change the focus from your belly fat to developing and executing habits that help you reach a healthy weight. If you are already at a healthy weight continue to execute exercises that keep you fit and tone with a primary focus on abdominal exercises that help you develop that region from the inside out. For example exercises like the Prone ISO Abs (Plank) and Abs rotational exercises.”

Advice to live by: “Prepare to succeed before taking your first action steps by defining your current state and desired outcome.”
