Sharecare Chairman and Chief Architect Jeff Arnold was named an honorary member of Sigma Theta Tau at the prestigious organization’s 42nd Biennial Convention in Dallas.
Honorary membership in the International Honor Society of Nursing is awarded to a rare few outside the nursing profession for “superior achievements and contributions to the advancement of nursing and healthcare at national and global levels.” Past honorees include Audrey Hepburn for her work as a UNICEF Ambassador and Queen Noor for her work with Children’s Relief.
Because I’m a nurse and an ambassador for Sharecare, I was thrilled to be in the audience when Jeff received his award and addressed the organization: “Thank you for this incredible honor tonight on behalf of myself and our company, Sharecare. I am so humbled and inspired by what all of you do each and every day—saving lives without the credit, without complaining and while demonstrating unconditional care.”
Jeff, who pointed out that nurses have a very special place in his heart (his wife, Meg, is a nurse), went on to say that when he and Dr. Mehmet Oz started Sharecare they knew from the start that they had to have nurse experts providing information along with doctors. “We know that patients get their most trustworthy and useful information from nurses,” he said. “And after being introduced to Sigma Theta Tau and learning your mission—improving world health through knowledge —I knew it was the perfect fit. Dr. Oz and I are so very grateful to all of you who support Sharecare as we could not do it without all of YOU and the leadership of Sigma Theta Tau.”
I am proud of Jeff and also proud of Sharecare, where we do indeed have hundreds of nurse experts on call to provide answers to consumer health questions. Nurses rule!
