Have you ever walked out the doctor’s office and immediately forgotten what the doc told you?
Don’t worry, you’re not alone: According to research, a whopping 40 to 80 percent of medical info is forgotten once the patient walks out the door. And 50 percent of what you DO recall is probably not remembered correctly! It’s like we all catch some sort of “doctor amnesia,” perhaps because we’re nervous or overwhelmed—or both.
That’s why Dr. Oz recommends that you take a tape recorder (or cell phone with recording abilities) to your doctor visit with you. Then you don’t have to work so hard at remembering and can take advantage of every precious moment with the doc. Bringing someone with you to be a designated listener is another smart doc office strategy.
For more ways to maximize your next doctor visit, please attend Sharecare’s Virtual Doc Talk Webinar on October 20th! Dr. Oz, along with Dr. Vonda Wright, Dr. Mike Clark, Dr. Tanya Altmann and Dr. Linda Lee will be answering your health questions and will have some great advice on how you can be a really smart patient.
If you have a question for the virtual docs, leave us a comment and we’ll pass it on. Questions will be answered during the webinar and on Sharecare in the following days.
And don’t forget to sign up for Dr. Oz’s Transformation Nation. Connecting with your Doctor is one of the steps of the program, which challenges you to get healthier by losing 10% of your weight or reaching a healthy BMI. Meet those goals and you’ll feel better—and you could win $1 million.
