“Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” That’s the favorite quote of Sharecare fitness expert Todd Townes, who just happens to have plenty of talent and work ethic. In fact, he was recently named one of “Americas Top Trainers” by Men’s Journal Magazine. You can find Todd all over Sharecare, including answering questions like How can I get a good workout doing household chores? and How long should I hold a stretch for? and sharing his workout videos, including this one, which shows how to work/stretch that part of your back/neck (it’s called the trapezius muscle) that’s always stiff after a day hunched over the computer.
Todd is such an energetic, motivating guy, we wanted to know more about what makes him tick. Here’s what he told us.
Todd Townes
Day job: Owner of Source Fitness Management and Corporate Fitness Consultant
Weekend job: Coach of the 6th Grade Milton Football Junior Eagles. “My oldest son, Price, is a fullback and middle linebacker and is having a big season. I look forward to this opportunity every week and wish I could do this on a full-time basis.”
Proud to be: A good father to Price (11) and Parker (5) and a good husband to Krista. “They are my motivation.”
Favorite activity: Basketball
Health mission: Make a difference one life at a time
The healthiest thing he does every day: “I hug my family!”
Passion: Sports performance
Secret pastime: Fantasy Football. “I play in a Father/Son Fantasy Football league with other experts on Sharecare. This is a great way to spend more time with the boys and share some common interests that will only grow with time.”
Weight-management secret: “Eat less and move more…it’s as simple as that!”
His advice to live by: Take the road less traveled. “Life is about the choices you make. Early in life I chose an active path as opposed to sedentary lifestyle and it has permeated everything I do including my profession. In addition, it has set an example for my kid’s to follow. Parker and Price would rather play outside than sit in front of the television or play video games. My hope is that more will choose this path and make the road wider for many to follow.”
What’s always in his fridge: Grapes and Turkey. “Grapes in the morning provide necessary energy to get me started and are a great snack as the day goes along. Turkey is my protein staple and the go-to for lunch/dinner just about any time. Both very healthy and tasty!”
His go-to routine: “It includes 5 sets of 30 pushups (150 total), 20 crunches (100 total) and 10 squats (50 total) without rest. If I have access to a pool, I will incorporate 10 minutes of running in the water. This can be done anywhere, anytime and gets me geared up and ready to go.”
What he loves about Sharecare.com: “Its ability to reach the masses in a relevant way!”
